1 Question from Dr. Wan Nur Aini Wan Mokhtar Can this technology migrate to the pilot-scale? Where the photobioreactor was being applied? Cannot clearly understand the purpose of photo source. What is the advantages of using autoclavable polycarbonate material? Not clearly highlighted.
Answer from presenter Thank you for asking this question Dr. I will try my best to explain it one by one. 1) Can this technology migrate to the pilot scale? Currently, we have only done in 2L & 4L size reactor with the same material in a sterile condition. It is possible if further studies are done on how to control the sterilisation of the polycarbonate on large scale. 2) Where the photobioreactor was being applied? Currently its for small scale (lab scale). A photo (light) bio (living organism) reactor (the vessel that carried out chemical process)- that suitable for organism undergoes photosynthesis. Where our studies are focusing on cultivating microalgae. 3) Cannot clearly understand the purpose of the photo source. The purpose of the photo source is to mimic the need for algae to grow, as they need air carbon dioxide (ambient air), nutrients (walnes media), sunlight (LED light), and water (seawater). 4) What are the advantages of using autoclavable polycarbonate material? Autoclavable polycarbonate is a cheaper alternative compared to the commonly used material which are stainless steel and special glasses. The material had been modified to ensure the suitability for algae to grow in sterile conditions.
