Torrefaction was implemented for thermochemical pre-treatment process to improve the EFB raw materials and further exploiting for energy purposes. The modified microwave was introduced as a heat source reactor using the irradiation wavelength, with the limited air atmosphere into the torrefaction system. As such parameter of heating rate has influenced the process yield. The parameter was capped at 100 to 700 W to form the microwave power input to the alumina crucible which hold the samples prepared. Fractional output in .wt.% (liquid, gas and solid) was determined to evaluate the yield performance within process stage. Thus, the 385 W of power selection was made with bound consideration of formation thermal shock at a constant supply of nitrogen as inert gas during the heating process.
